Interleukin-37, known as one of IL-1 family members, was a recently found with broadly function in reducing innate inflammation as well as acquired immune responses. There are five variants in its transcripts (IL-37a-e), by which IL-37b is the focus of the studies. Important effect of IL-37 is found in the development of Inflammatory diseases of bone and joint. However, how it regulates in innate inflammation and acquired immune responses is not completely understood. To sum up theoretical basis for the pathogenesis, classification and diagnosis of inflammatory diseases of bone and joint and to provide new ideas for the application of IL-37 in the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory diseases of bone and joint, this article reviewed the biological characteristics and signaling pathways of IL-37 and summary its researches in inflammatory diseases of bone and joint.
