Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effect of traditional Chinese medicine fumigation in patients with lateral patellofemoral hypertension syndrome.

Methods

From August 2016 to August 2019 in orthopedic department of Cangzhou Combine Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital treated 120 cases of patellofemoral lateral pressure syndrome. According to random number table method the patients were divided into the control group and the study group, 60 cases in each group. The control group were given simple release patellofemoral lateral retinaculum therapy under arthroscope, and the study group were given traditional Chinese medicine fumigation treatment on the basis of the same surgical treatment. The changes in knee joint function, imaging examination indexes, gait, and isokinetic muscle strength were observed before and after six months of treatment, and the clinical efficacy after six months of treatment was evaluated. The independent sample t test and the chi-square test were performed.

Results

After six months of treatment, the clinical efficacy of the study group was significantly better than that of the control group (χ2=4.227, P<0.05). The knee joint function of the two groups was better than that before treatment, and the study group was better than the control group (t= 4.201, P<0.05). The patella displacement (PLS), patella tilt angle (PTA) and congruence angle(CA) of the two groups on the patella axial X-ray films were all lower than those before the treatment. PLS, PTA and CA of the study group were lower than the control group (t=-7.287, -11.901, -14.717, all P<0.05). The step length, pace, and stride length of the two groups all increased compared with those before the treatment, and the study group all were higher than those of the control group (t=8.593, 4.201, 3.643, all P<0.05). The peak extensor torque and peak flexor torque of the two groups increased compared to those before treatment, and the study group were higher than the control group (t=4.959, 5.951, both P<0.05).

Conclusion

Traditional Chinese medicine fumigation can effectively treat lateral patellofemoral hypertension syndrome and restore the knee function of patients, which is worthy of clinical applicationn.
