Abstract:

Objective

To study the method of three-dimensional reconstruction of knee joint using Mimics software aimed at finite element analysis.

Methods

MRI images were imported into Mimics software. The "3D LiveWire" tool was used to establish the bone tissue model and the "dynamic region growing" tool was used to establish the soft tissue model.

Results

The obtained three-dimensional model of the knee joint included the femur, tibia, patella, femoral cartilage, tibial cartilage, anterior and posterior cruciate ligament, medial and lateral collateral ligaments, medial and lateral menisci. The beginning and ending of bone and cartilage closed fit and realistic shape.

Conclusion

The 3D model of the knee joint created by Mimics software is more completed and the boundaries between the bone and the soft tissues are more clear, which is more suitable for subsequent finite element meshing and analysis.
