Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effect of arthroscopic meniscus plasty combined with sodium hyaluronate injection on meniscus tear.
Methods A total of 102 patients with meniscus tear who received treatment of arthroscopic meniscus plasty at Qingdao Huangdao District Central Hospital from January 2018 to December 2020 were selected as the study subjects. With a random number table, the patients were assigned into a control group (n=51) and an observation group (n=51). Where, the control group received arthroscopic meniscus reconstruction surgery, while the observation group received an injection of sodium hyaluronate in additional of the arthroscopic surgical procedure that performed in the control group. The t test was conducted to compare grade of knee pain [visual analogue scale (VAS)], range of motion of knee, function of knee (Lysholm function score).
Results There was no statistically significant difference in VAS score, range of motion of knee, Lysholm function score, IL-6, IL-1β and TNF- α of the two groups before treatment (all P>0.05). After four weeks of treatment, the VAS scores were significantly reduced in both groups (t=121.404, 55.132, both P<0.05).Range of motion of knee and Lysholm function scores were remarkably increased in both groups (t=-9.961, -5.754, -11.597, -11.727, all P<0.05). Four weeks after treatment, the VAS score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group (t=12.982, P<0.05), and the range of motion of knee and Lysholm function scores of the observation group were higher than those of the control group (t=3.505, 2.268, both P<0.05).
Conclusion In the treatment of patient with a meniscus tear, regular injection of sodium hyaluronate after an arthroscopic meniscus plasty can improve the outcome after surgery by relieving postoperative pain, improving functional recovery of knee and reducing local inflammation, and in addition it is safe.
