Abstract:

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an effective treatment for advanced osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) of the knee. Cemented fixation implants are widely referred by orthopedic surgeons. Cementless prostheses which are designed and applied for younger (≤60years old) and more active patients, do not gain great favor over cement prostheses for the sake of poor design and material technique, leading to frequent TKA failure and unpleasing outcome. However, the latest generation of cementless fixation prostheses are gradually considered as a reasonable option among TKA processes attributed to the development of prostheses design and material technique. This article reviewed the history and current application, newest characteristics and the research disadvantage of cementless TKA.
