Vitamin D and osteoarthritis

Abstract:

Osteoarthritis (OA)is a progressive and degenerative disease characterized with cartilage loss and osteophyte formation. The exact etiology and pathogenesis of OA are still unknown. It is hard to cure the disease completely. Increasing evidences suggest that OA might be directly affected by vitamin D. Researches on this article made a brief review on the up to date researches of OA by reviewing literature concerned in recent years. The status of vitamin D deficiency was explored. The relationship between vitamin D and osteoarthritis and its mechanism of action was discussed. Vitamin D plays an important physiological and pathological role; vitamin D deficiency is extremely severe in the world.
