Therapeutic effects of active motion training on rehabilitation in perioperative period of bilateral total knee arthroplasty

Abstract:

Objective

To discuss different ways of training on the perioperative recovery of patients with total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Methods

Fifty-four patients with bilateral TKA were selected, and randomly divided into two groups with different methods of training, namely the auxiliary motion training group and the active motion training group. The rehabilitation period of the two groups was one week. Modified Barthel index(MBI), Berg balance scale(BBS), active range of motion(AROM) and passive range of motion(PROM) were evaluated, and statistical analysis was performed with t test.

Results

The active motion training group were better in MBI and Berg compared with the auxiliary motion training group (MBI, t=-20.108, P<0.01; Berg, t=-13.335, P<0.01). AROM/PROM in the active motion training group were larger than the auxiliary motion training group (AROM, t=-4.288, P<0.01; PROM, t=-4.232, P<0.01).

Conclusion

Enhancement of active motion training could obviously improve the balance function, range of motion, and patients activities of daily life (ADL) in the perioperative recovery, which can effectively promote the knee joint function and improve the life quality.
